Autocorrect and suggestions

How Word Correction, the suggestion bar and smart punctuation work, and how NuKey learns the way you write.

The suggestion bar

The bar above the keys offers completions and predictions as you type. Turn it on or off with Word Suggestions in Keys → Typing: Shows word completions and predictions in the suggestion bar.

Tap a suggestion to use it. Type a word and press space and NuKey applies its best correction automatically when Word Correction is on.

Autocorrect that learns

Fix a word once and NuKey remembers. If you correct a correction, or keep a word as you typed it, the keyboard treats that as a lesson and stops fighting you. Words you type often show up as Picked Up Words in My Words, where you can keep or forget them.

Smart punctuation

  • Smart punctuation spacing moves punctuation before an automatic trailing space, so you never get “word .”.
  • Automatic capitalisation capitalises the first letter of sentences.
  • Double space for full stop types a full stop on two quick space taps.
  • Keep number keyboard open stays on 123 after punctuation until you tap ABC.

The switches that matter

Word CorrectionAutomatically fixes misspelled words as you type.
Word SuggestionsCompletions and predictions in the bar.
Emoji suggestionsOffers a matching emoji. Typing hi suggests 👋.
Replace words with emojiChoosing an emoji replaces its matching word instead of adding it beside it.
Good to knowNuke Mode keeps the bar to corrections only and has its own Word Correction switch.

When it keeps changing something

  1. Type the word as you want it, then tap the spot where the correction appeared and put your version back.
  2. Better, add it to My Words so autocorrect leaves it alone for good.
  3. If a whole language is misbehaving, check Languages: the keyboard corrects in whichever language you have on.
