Key legends and fonts

Choose a typeface, weight and size for the letters, nudge them into place, or download any of 400 Google fonts.

Choose a typeface

Open Key Legends. Each tile prints its face on a real key, in the weight and size you set below, so you see the real thing. There are twenty-eight built-in faces across five families: sans-serif, serif, monospaced, bold display and handwritten. Names include Retro, Classic, Rounded, Modern, Terminal, Heritage, Editorial, Typewriter, Console, Marker, Calligraphy and Notebook.

Weight, size and position

  • Weight: four weights, up to the heaviest extra bold.
  • Size: seven sizes, so the letters can be as large as you need.
  • Position: nudge the legend exactly where you want it on the cap.
TipLegend font, weight and size are independent of the keycaps, which makes this one of the best accessibility settings in the app. See Accessibility.

Google Fonts

Under Google Fonts there are over four hundred more free, open-licensed faces, fetched when you tap one. A download all option fetches the whole catalogue with a progress count.

Good to knowA shared keyboard carries only the face's name. Whoever imports it downloads the same face in their app, so legend fonts are never embedded or redistributed.

Legends that light up

Legends have their own lighting channel. Build a rig in Lighting Studio to make letters glow, pulse or sweep independently of the light under the keys.
