Rewind Pro
An opt-in, encrypted, on-device record of what you typed, put back in a tap when an app loses it.
What it is for
A crashed app. A form that reloaded. A select-all that went wrong. Rewind keeps a short record of what you typed so the keyboard can put it back. It is off until you turn it on.
NuKey ProComes with NuKey Pro.
Turn it on
- Open Rewind on the home hub and switch it on.
- Choose how long to keep captures: 1 hour, 6 hours or 24 hours.
- To reach it, hold the emoji key and choose Rewind, or set the knob, push button or a switch position to open it.
Putting text back
Open the Rewind panel and tap a capture to type it back. Nothing is ever restored by itself. A control only opens the panel, because the wrong text in the wrong chat is worse than the loss.
Captures are labelled by the kind of field (Message, Search, Email, Post or Web) with how long ago, because a keyboard cannot see which app it is in.
How it records
- It captures the text a field holds a moment after you pause, and keeps the longest version it saw, so deleting from the end never shrinks what it saved.
- Captures shorter than twelve characters are ignored.
- It keeps up to forty, and prunes older ones every time the keyboard loads.
- Pause it from the panel when you would rather it looked away.
What it never keeps
- Secure text entry: passwords, passcodes, anything the app hides as you type.
- Fields marked for passwords, new passwords, one-time codes or card numbers.
- Number pads and phone pads, and any text that is only digits.
- Anything while paused, and anything older than your retention window.
Privacy
- Captures live in the keyboard's own private storage, not the shared container. The NuKey app never reads a character of them; it only shows a count.
- They are sealed with a key held in the keyboard's Keychain, marked never to leave the device.
- Nothing syncs, uploads or backs up.
- Wipe destroys the captures and the key that protected them. It cannot be undone, which is the point.
Good to knowBy mechanism, a keyboard that records what you type is a keylogger, which is exactly why Rewind is opt-in, skips sensitive fields, expires on its own and stays unreadable to everything but you.
